Research Projects
Our research areas include:
- structure, function, and evolution of plant vascular networks;
- multiphase fluid dynamics influencing plant hydraulic function and failure;
- hydrodynamics of the soil-plant-atmosphere continuum; and
- cross-scale interactions and whole-plant coordination of material and energy flows.
We combine plant physiology with approaches from ecosystem science, evolutionary theory, network science and fluid dynamics to achieve fundamental advances in plant ecophysiology. We develop original quantitative models linking plant structure and function at multiple scales and use lab- and field-based observations to test their predictions.
